about
"Joshua" made it to the Top 100 of CBC's Searchlight competition in 2018. It's a song about being the first person to set bare foot to river bed, believing in promised land. It's about waking people up, gathering them together and saying "would you walk with me?" It was born of my own journey over rivers, highways and prairie to Saskatoon, starting a new life in a new community far from home.
lyrics
I'm going over the Jordan.
I'm going over the Jordan river
in the morning,
so come on, brother, would you walk with me?
I'm going over the Jordan.
I'm going over the Jordan river
in the morning,
so come on, sister, would you walk with me?
When I went up on the mountain ...
when I went way up on the mountain,
I saw the river,
oh, and the land that was promised me.
So come on up to the mountain.
Come on up to the mountain, my brother.
You can see the river,
oh, you can see it when you're on your knees.
And though the water's cold
and the load is heavy
and this is all that we can carry,
still I know tomorrow
we'll be crossing the river with our naked feet.
Yeah I know tomorrow,
we'll be crossing the river, though we're on our knees.
I'm going over the Jordan.
I'm going over the Jordan river
in the morning,
so come on, brother, would you walk with me?
I'm going over the Jordan.
I'm going over the Jordan river
in the morning,
so come on, sister, would you walk with me?
